rebuildingsociety’s Summer Drinks with Electric Star

On Wednesday 17th September, rebuildingsociety held an evening of drinks and canapés at The Star of Kings in London’s Kings Cross.

We were kindly hosted by Electric Star Ltd, a recent successful borrower. The Star of Kings is one of four pubs in the chain and we were delighted to be making good use of our client base. Rob Star, the owner, wanted to say thank-you to the people that have made the refurbishment of his most recent venture, The Jackdaw and Star in Homerton, possible. (more…)

Rebuildingsociety Joins Alternative Business Funding Portal

Peer-to-peer lending platform, rebuildingsociety, has joined the rapidly-expanding Alternative Business Funding (ABF) portal – to support SMEs requiring non-bank finance solutions.

Accounting for over 85% of the UK’s alternative business funding market, ABF continues to receive widespread backing from industry bodies including the British Banking Association, Federation of Small Businesses and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

The latest supporter is the National Association of Commercial Finance Brokers which promotes the ABF’s aim to be the designated portal for bank referrals. Rebuildingsociety – which has a loan book of almost £4m, and has grown 250 per cent since 2013, becomes the portal’s twelth alternative funder.

Working closely with key government departments and stakeholders, ABF has played a lead role in the conception and delivery of The Treasury’s plans to introduce legislation whereby banks would match SMEs that have been rejected for loans, with alternative finance providers.

Interest rates might rise in 2015, but who should be concerned?

After five years of record lows, Mark Carney seems to be preparing the UK for a rise in the early part of 2015. It’s an encouraging sign of health in the UK economy, particularly after the Bank of England’s governor identified inflation and unemployment as the barometers for making the change.

This suggests life is getting a bit easier for the vast majority of people in the UK – and the governor has been careful to faze this in slowly – there are many who are concerned about the impact of a rate rise on family and business finances and the wider recovery.

For businesses, the time to read the small print in bank loan agreements is now. Repayments or fees linked to interest rate movements could destabilise a business, so refinancing away from a bank facility now could save a nasty surprise when rates do go up.
